Fix Payday 2 Stuck at 60Hz - Force Refresh Rate Config
It is frustrating when your high-refresh monitor makes Payday 2 feel choppy because the game refuses to acknowledge anything above 60Hz. Since there is no menu option to change this, you have to manually edit a hidden configuration file to force the game to run at your monitor's native speed.
Why this happens
Payday 2 defaults to 60Hz regardless of your hardware, and the game lacks an internal setting to override this behavior.
Steps
-
01Press Windows + R on your keyboard, type %localappdata%/PAYDAY 2, and press Enter.
-
02Find the file named renderer_settings.xml, right-click it, and open it with Notepad.
-
03Locate the line that says refresh_rate and change the number to match your monitor's Hz (e.g., 144, 240).
-
04Press Ctrl + S to save the file and close Notepad.
-
05Launch the game to check if the issue is resolved.
-
06If the game resets the file, right-click renderer_settings.xml, select Properties, check the Read-only box, and click Apply.
