Fix PAYDAY 2 Random Crashes to Desktop
It is frustrating when PAYDAY 2 drops you to your desktop right in the middle of a heist. Your game is likely crashing because of outdated mods, corrupted local files, or a graphics driver that is struggling to keep up with the game engine.
Why this happens
Most PAYDAY 2 crashes are caused by incompatible mod files or missing game data that prevents the engine from loading assets correctly.
Steps
-
01Open Steam, right-click PAYDAY 2, select Manage, then Browse local files.
-
02Move or delete the
modsandassets/mod_overridefolders to see if a mod is causing the crash. -
03Remove any standalone files like
IPHLPAPI.dllorHawksHood.dllif they exist in your root game folder. -
04In Steam, right-click PAYDAY 2, go to Properties, then Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files.
-
05Download and install the latest graphics driver directly from the NVIDIA or AMD websites.
-
06If the game still crashes, press Win+R, type
%localappdata%, open the PAYDAY 2 folder, and check thecrash.txtfile for specific error details.
