Fix Overwatch 2 Lag and Low FPS - Performance Guide
Nothing ruins a match faster than your frame rate tanking during a team fight. Usually, this is caused by a conflict between Windows power management settings and the game's internal graphics overhead, rather than a hardware failure.
Why this happens
Overwatch 2 often struggles when Windows power settings or background processes limit your GPU utilization. These adjustments prioritize your graphics card and stabilize your frame delivery.
What you'll need
Ensure you have the latest drivers from your GPU manufacturer and an Ethernet connection to rule out network-related jitter.
Steps
-
01In Overwatch, go to Options and select the Video tab.
-
02Set Display Mode to Fullscreen and Graphics API to DirectX 11.
-
03Turn VSync off, set Reduce Buffering to on, and set Nvidia Reflex to Enabled + Boost.
-
04Set Texture Quality to low, Shadow Detail to off, and Ambient Occlusion to off to reduce GPU load.
-
05Set Render Scale to 100 percent and verify it stays there after hitting apply.
-
06If lagging persists, update your GPU drivers via the Nvidia or AMD official websites.
-
07Open the Windows Start menu, search for Graphics Settings, and toggle Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling to on.
-
08Search for Game Mode in the Start menu and ensure it is turned on.
-
09Search for Power Plan in the Start menu and set it to High Performance or Ultimate Performance.
-
10Close all background applications like web browsers or extra launchers before launching the game.
