How To Find Subnautica 2 Save Files - PC & Steam (2026)

KitsuneGuide Watch on YouTube ↗

If you are trying to back up your progress, move to a new PC, or fix a save that just won't load, you need to get into the game's hidden data folder. Windows hides this directory by default, so you won't find it just by browsing your Steam library.

Why this happens

Subnautica 2 stores game progress in the hidden local AppData directory rather than the main Steam installation folder. This structure is used to keep save files separate from game updates and application files.

Steps

  1. 01
Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
  2. 02
Type %localappdata% into the box and press Enter to open your user AppData/Local folder.
  3. 03
Scroll down the list of folders and open the folder named Subnautica 2.
  4. 04
Open the Saved folder, then double-click the SaveGames folder.
  5. 05
Copy these files to a safe location to back them up, or delete specific folders within SaveGames to resolve save corruption issues.
