Fix CS2 Lagging and Low FPS - Performance Optimization Guide
Nothing kills your rank faster than your screen stuttering right as you peek an angle. If your PC should be handling Counter-Strike 2 just fine but is dropping frames constantly, these settings will help stabilize your performance.
Why this happens
CS2 often suffers from performance overhead caused by inefficient launch parameters, high-impact video settings, and Windows defaulting the game to power-saving modes.
What you will need
You will need access to your Steam library, your monitor's refresh rate frequency, and local administrative access to adjust graphics settings.
Steps
-
01Right-click CS2 in Steam, select Properties, and ensure Game Recording is disabled under the General tab.
-
02In the General tab, add these to your launch options:
-novid -high -freq X -fps_max 0 -nojoy(replace X with your monitor's Hz). -
03Launch CS2 and go to Settings, disable V-Sync, and set NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency to 'Enabled + Boost'.
-
04Set Shader Detail, Model Detail, and Texture Detail to 'Low', and Global Shadow Quality to 'Medium'.
-
05Open Windows search, type 'Graphics Settings', and browse to your cs2.exe file located in: C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/game/bin/win64/cs2.exe
-
06Select cs2.exe, click Options, and set it to 'High Performance'.
-
07Open the in-game console with the tilde (~) key and type
cl_showfps 1to monitor your frame rate and test stability. -
08Restart your PC and check for the latest GPU driver updates if stutters persist.
