Fix Google Chrome Not Opening on Windows 11

KitsuneGuide Watch on YouTube ↗

You click the Chrome icon and absolutely nothing happens, leaving you stuck without a browser. This usually occurs because Windows thinks an instance of the app is already running, which prevents a new window from launching.

Why this happens

Chrome has likely crashed in the background and left behind zombie processes that are still consuming system resources. These invisible processes prevent you from starting a fresh session.

Steps

  1. 01
Right-click your taskbar and select Task Manager from the menu.
  2. 02
Click the search box at the top of the Task Manager window and type Chrome.
  3. 03
Right-click every entry that appears in the list and select End task.
  4. 04
Continue ending these processes until the list is completely empty.
  5. 05
Try opening Google Chrome again from your desktop or start menu.
