How To Check Your Claude AI Usage
You are likely trying to figure out why Claude stopped responding or if you are about to hit your message limit. Claude shares a single usage pool across the web interface, desktop app, and Claude Code, so heavy use in one area quickly drains your capacity for everything else.
Prerequisites
This usage monitoring feature is only available for users on Pro or Max plans. If you are on the free tier, you will not see a usage tab in your settings menu.
Steps
-
01Log into your account at
claude.aiand click your profile initials in the bottom-left corner to open the menu. -
02Select the
Settingsoption from the menu, then click on theUsagetab located in the left-hand sidebar. -
03Review the usage bar displayed on the page to see how much of your current limit has been consumed.
-
04Check the text beneath the usage bar to verify the specific reset times for your models, keeping in mind that Claude Opus often has a different weekly reset cycle than other models.
-
05For faster access in the future, you can navigate directly to
claude.ai/settings/usagein your browser. -
06If you are using Claude Code, you can quickly check your status by typing
/usageinto any active terminal session.
Still not working?
If you are a Pro or Max subscriber but the usage page is missing or failing to load, try clearing your browser cache or disabling any ad-blockers that might be interfering with the Claude interface. If you see an upgrade prompt instead of a usage bar, verify that your subscription is currently active by checking your billing status in the same settings menu.
Frequently asked questions
Does my usage limit reset at the same time for all models?
No, Claude Opus often operates on a separate weekly reset cycle compared to other models like Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which is why you might have capacity for one but not the other.
Will using Claude Code drain my web interface limit?
Yes, Claude caps your messages on a rolling window that is shared across the web interface, the desktop app, and Claude Code. Using one will decrease the available limit for the others.
