How To Check Your Claude AI Usage

KitsuneGuide Watch on YouTube ↗

If you've been cut off mid-conversation, you're likely hitting the message limits on your Claude Pro or Max plan. It is frustrating when your work session gets interrupted, but you can check exactly how much capacity you have left and when your quota resets.

Important usage notes

Your usage limit is shared across the web interface, Claude Code, and the desktop app, meaning heavy use in one area will limit you in all others. Note that this usage page is only accessible for users on Pro or Max subscription plans.

Steps

  1. 01
Log into your account at https://claude.ai and click on your profile initials in the bottom left corner to open the menu.
  2. 02
Select Settings from the menu, then click on the Usage tab located in the sidebar to view your current consumption bar.
  3. 03
Review the reset time displayed on the screen, noting that the weekly reset for Opus models is separate from the reset for all other models.
  4. 04
If you prefer a shortcut, simply navigate directly to https://claude.ai/settings/usage while logged in to bypass the menu navigation.
  5. 05
If you are using Claude Code, type /usage into any active session to see your current status without leaving the terminal.

Still not working?

If you are on a Pro or Max plan but cannot see the Usage tab, try logging out and clearing your browser cache. If you hit your limit and see an upgrade prompt despite having a paid subscription, ensure you are signed into the correct account associated with your billing.

Frequently asked questions

Does heavy usage in Claude Code affect my web limits?

Yes, Claude shares a single rolling usage window across the web interface, the desktop app, and Claude Code. High activity in one will reduce your available messages for the others.

Why do I see different reset times for different models?

Claude treats the Opus model usage separately from standard models. You will often see distinct reset timelines for Opus versus the other available models in your account settings.

Can I check my usage if I am on the free plan?

The dedicated usage tracking page is currently only available for Pro and Max plan subscribers.
