How to Change Your Display Name in The Finals
You are probably frustrated because changing your Steam, PSN, or Xbox account name didn't update your name in The Finals. The game uses a separate Embark ID that isn't managed through any in-game settings menu. You have to handle this on their web portal instead.
Why this happens
The Finals assigns you a random Embark ID when you first launch the game, which acts independently of your platform-specific account names.
Naming rules
Your new name can be up to 16 characters long. You cannot have more than 4 numbers in a row, and only hyphens, underscores, or periods are allowed.
Steps
-
01Open your web browser and navigate to the official Embark ID page at https://id.embark.games/id/sign-in.
-
02Log in using your preferred platform credentials, such as Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox, to access your account dashboard.
-
03Navigate to the 'Profile' section of the site.
-
04Locate the 'Display Name' field and click the 'Edit' button next to it.
-
05Enter your desired name, follow the naming constraints, and click 'Save' to update your display name across all platforms.
Still not working?
If you receive an error while saving, it is likely due to the name being filtered for profanity or violating the character constraints. If you have already changed your name recently, you must wait 30 days before the 'Edit' button will allow you to save a new name again.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing my Embark ID change my Steam or PSN username?
No, this only changes your display name within The Finals. Your primary platform account name remains exactly as it was.
Is there a cost to change my name?
No, it is completely free to change your name, though Embark limits you to one change every 30 days.
