ChatGPT How To Delete Your Image History
You are looking for a way to clear out your ChatGPT image gallery but cannot find a delete button on the images themselves. Because ChatGPT saves images as part of your conversation history, the only way to remove them is to delete the chat thread where they were originally created.
Why this happens
ChatGPT does not treat generated images as standalone files but as components of a specific conversation thread. Consequently, individual deletion is not supported; you must remove the parent conversation to purge the images.
Steps
-
01Open ChatGPT and click Images in the left sidebar to load your gallery (on mobile, tap the menu icon in the top left first).
-
02Select the image you want to remove to view it in full size.
-
03Click the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner and select Open in Chat to navigate to the original conversation thread.
-
04Locate the conversation title in the left sidebar, hover over it, and click the three-dot menu icon (on mobile, press and hold the title).
-
05Select Delete and confirm the action to permanently remove the entire conversation and all images associated with it.
Still not working?
If the images are still appearing after you have deleted the chat, try clearing your browser cache or force-closing the ChatGPT mobile app and reopening it. Remember that once a chat is deleted, the conversation and all images within it are permanently purged from OpenAI servers and cannot be recovered.

Does this remove images from my shared links?
Deleting the chat thread will invalidate any shared links associated with that specific conversation, effectively removing the images from public view as well.
