Abiotic Factor Low FPS & Stutters? Fix!
You have already set your graphics to Low, but your Abiotic Factor frame rate is still unplayable and stuttering constantly. The game is likely struggling because of specific heavy rendering features or conflicts between DirectX 12 and your hardware, but we can bypass these with a few configuration tweaks.
Why this happens
The default Low preset in Abiotic Factor keeps 'Global Illumination' enabled, which is extremely taxing. Additionally, the game engine often struggles with DirectX 12 performance and Windows hardware-level GPU scheduling.
Steps
-
01Launch Abiotic Factor and navigate to your in-game Graphics settings, then locate 'Global Illumination' and set it to 'OFF' to immediately regain significant frame rate.
-
02If the issue persists, open your Steam Library, right-click 'Abiotic Factor', and select 'Properties'. Under the 'General' tab, find the 'Launch Options' box and type
-dx11to force the game to run on the more stable DirectX 11 API. -
03To disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, right-click your desktop and select 'Display settings', then scroll down to 'Graphics' and click 'Change default graphics settings'. Toggle 'Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling' to 'Off' and restart your computer for the change to apply.
Still not working?
If you are still seeing stutters, check if your GPU drivers are outdated via your manufacturer's software (Nvidia GeForce Experience or AMD Adrenalin). If the stuttering happens specifically when entering new zones, verify your game files in Steam by right-clicking the game, selecting 'Properties', then 'Installed Files', and clicking 'Verify integrity of game files' to ensure no corrupted assets are causing the hitches.
Frequently asked questions
Will using the -dx11 launch option break my game?
No, it is completely safe. If you want to switch back to the default renderer later, simply delete the -dx11 command from the Steam launch options box.
Does disabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling hurt other games?
For most users, it has no negative impact. However, if you notice performance drops in other titles after turning it off, you can easily toggle it back on using the same Windows settings menu.
